Top Trends of the Season

There seem to be so many trends going on this season that it's hard to define exactly which trends are in style and which aren't. So here is a quick list of the trends to watch for when going on your annual (or semi-annual, or monthly, or weekly, or daily!) shopping trip!

1. Metallic Dress
2. Animal Print
3. Ruffles
4. Distressed Jeans
5. Lace

Neha Dhupia in a Metallic dress - Keep the sleeves and length on metallic dresses short!

Deepika in Animal Print - any kind of animal print is in! My favorite right now is zebra print!

Neetu Chandra in Ruffles - This dress is so-so on Neetu; I prefer a dress with a sequence of ruffles going from the top to the bottom. My personal favorite is a satin or chiffon halter blouse with ruffles from top to bottom! Hot!

Kareena in Distressed Jeans - I love this look on Kareena! Honestly, wasn't a big fan of this jean when I first saw it, but it's grown on me! Pair this with a simple black, white or navy t-shirt and avoid any form of bling! Add boots or heels to make it look extra chic, or wear it with flats for a casual look.

First Wife's Dress

Unknown surprise guests, saris, turbans, and diamonds galore, filled the first state dinner. But, what stood out most was Michelle Obama's dress. Made in India and designed by Indian designer, Naeen Khan, Mrs. Obama wore a cream and gold, long strapless glitter dress to the state dinner. Accessorized with diamond earrings and bangles, she looked absolutely stunning in this elegant piece.

Naeen Khan is a designer based out of India, who has also designed pieces for celebrities such as Beyonce and Padma Lakshmi.

Sheer, Draped, and Sexy

Two of the biggest trends of the season are sheer fabrics and draped pieces. So what pulls off both of these looks better than a sari? Mixing different fabrications together by adding a velvet or metallic blouse with a sheer sari gives the wearer a statement look - just remember to keep it fun and flirty!

The metallic blouse adds a little bit of sexiness to this sheer pink sari

Loving Deepika's velvet and net blouse!

Rani opted for a classic sheer sari instead of a dress this time!

Daughter in-law of Lakshmi Mittal (CEO of largest steel company in world/eighth richest person in the world/richest person in the U.K.) has recently won the bidding war for ownership of ESCADA AG, German Luxury Fashion House, which claimed insolvency earlier this year. Megha Mittal has been interested in making a fashion investment for years, and even beat out Sean Ley- the son of ESCADA's founder Wolfgang Ley. Why black, Aishwarya??

Who would have thought that the one thing to change the way that Indian women viewed the colour black would be from Aishwarya's appearence on Oprah?

In Indian culture, black is symbolic of evil, negativity, anger and darkness- which is a huge reason why many women do not only not wear black but many dark colours. Not only this, but due to India's hot climate- black is very uncomfortable! So when Aishwarya stepped out on the stage in designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee's black sari, it left many people wondering why.

Designers have been trying for decades to phase in darker colours. They are now looking into a new fabric that is used in sports wear and motorcycle wear which is known to keep the wearer a few degrees celsius cooler than any other untreated black fabric. Indian designers are now working to introduce this fabric into the Indian market so that darker colours can be reconsidered.

This may conquer the Indian climate; but, do you think that this new fabric will be able to overcome the perception of the colour black in the Indian society?

Fusionista. In love with Western fashion, but can never get enough of Indian trends. Sitting on the internet for hours at an end, searching up the latest designers in India and looking at how they incorporate Indian fabrics and designs into Western apparel. Loving the colours, the fabrics, the designs.

Amazing, beautiful, sexy is how I would describe this industry.

So get addicted.
